Game out of this world
Two: The game would automatically save your progress as you went from level to level, although it never actually told you about it until you died and reappeared (no actual “game” interface to tell you that it’s saving, remember) https://mumsos.com/. The automatic save points were few and far between in some tough areas, causing you to think “Wait, I’ve gotta go through all that again? Screw that, what’s on TV?”
No one loves on Another World enough, these days. Five furious minutes of internet research have yielded us the information that no major gaming news / review site has ever put Another World on its list of the best games ever — not even at #100. These are lists that have hecking Hogan’s Alley or Kingdom Hearts on them, for God’s sake.
All great art tends to originate from a somewhat shy little need. Most of the time, the “need” is only a placebo. The artist eventually realizes he didn’t need anything. Like The Stone Roses said, “You don’t have to wait to die / the kingdom’s all inside”. Or something. Eric Chahi’s production of Another World began when he saw the game Dragon’s Lair, found the animation fascinating, and dreamt up — probably in a split second, while standing dead still in the middle of an intersection with a Styrofoam cup of coffee in his hand — a method to make similarly fluid animation using much less data storage space. He set to work immediately, having no clue what he was going to make — only a basic idea of how he was going to do it. It’s said he planned at first only to make a game like Karateka and Prince of Persia, only in a science-fiction setting. He spent half a year developing his excessively complicated though ultimately amazingly efficient animation technique. He developed it the only sane way: while using it to make a cinematic introduction for his game.

Another big industry concern is the proliferation of AI. SAG-AFTRA actors went on strike in July over video game developers using their voice and likeness without consent. By September, 80 video game developers agreed to the union’s terms. Much like in Hollywood, the use of AI is sure to continue to be a battle. Bumbling his way into the fray is Elon Musk, who seeks to start an AI game studio to “make games great again.”

While Niantic’s post-Pokémon Go track record hasn’t been the most consistent, Monster Hunter Now shows the company at its best, with a refined combat system, simple matchmaking, great monster variety, and extensive character upgrades. Granted, those upgrades are part of a monetization setup that gets a little heavy-handed, but if you’re patient, there’s plenty of game here for free. And unlike in some of Niantic’s other games, the real-world elements don’t feel tacked on, with a design that blends almost perfectly with the company’s map tech, allowing you to feel like you’re tracking monsters as you get outside and walk around. It all makes for a big step forward in fusing Niantic’s real-world tech approach with combat and exploration mechanics that can stand up on their own. —Matt Leone
Chrono Trigger is widely regarded as the greatest RPG of all time, and for good reason. What begins as a typical “day-in-the-life” adventure, quickly spirals into a sprawling, epoch jumping romp that is equally exhilarating and endearing. Created by a “dream team” at Squaresoft including Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, and character designs by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, Chrono Trigger’s pedigree was only outshined by its universal praise upon its release in the spring of 1995. Even at the twilight of the SNES’ lifespan, Chrono Trigger’s branching narrative, colorful characters and unforgettable soundtrack were more than enough to earn it a place on our list in this timeline or any other. – Zach Ryan
After the success of the first game, the developers have focused on refining the combat, adding multiple weapons and bizarre, hidden customization options that allow you to take command of how your character rips this world to shreds. The last time I played a 2D Metroidvania with this much polish and charm, it was Hollow Knight. Blasphemous 2 might not reach those same heights, but it comes damn close. —Russ Frushtick
Prime Video’s Fallout, based on the Bethesda game series, was the crown jewel of video game adaptations in 2024. Working within the continuity of the games, the show, starring Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, and Walton Goggins, was nominated for 16 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama and Best Lead Actor for Goggins. A sensation among critics and general audiences, a second season is currently in production.
Game 2 world series
The Dodger Stadium crowd was alive all night — Ice Cube got things started with a quick two-song pregame concert — and then suddenly the crowd hushed over in the bottom of the seventh inning. Shohei Ohtani slid into second base awkwardly on a stolen base attempt, and exited the game with the trainer. He was favoring his left arm. Here’s the play:
Here’s what the Yankees are trying to avoid in Game 2 on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium: Teams that have lost the first two games on the road in all 2-3-2 series are 11-45 in those series. In the World Series, specifically, they are 7-27.
The extent of the injury and Ohtani’s availability for the rest of the series remain unknown. After the game Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani’s strength and range of motion were good, but that he’s getting more tests done tonight.
The Dodgers are keeping him off-balance with spin, chasing pitcher’s pitches and behind on heaters. After striking out three times in both Game 1 and Game 2, Judge is 6 for 40 (.150) this postseason. He has struck out 13 times in his past five games combined. Is it time to move him down in the order? I’m not sure that would solve much; the Yankees aren’t winning this series without Judge finding his way — fast. But, at this point, can it really hurt?
When is the next world series game
“We know what’s at stake,” Freeman said. “We’ve got a chance to be champions, and we know they’ve got nothing to lose, and they’re going to come out and do everything they can. It’s our job to go out there and hopefully put together another good ballgame.”
The Yankees won the AL East, then took down the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS and the Cleveland Guardians in the ALCS. This is their first Fall Classic since 2009, when they beat the Philadelphia Phillies to secure their 27th championship.
With 21 combined home runs through 11 games, the Yankees and Dodgers have a lot to live up to. Nevertheless, the MLB script writers this season knew what they were doing when crafting the storyline so far, and it’s hard to believe this coming week won’t deliver.
Through two games against the Dodgers, Judge is 1-for-9 with six strikeouts. For the postseason as a whole, he’s 6-for-40 with 19 strikeouts. It’s a far cry from a regular season in which Judge’s 58 homers, 144 RBIs and 1.159 OPS made for one of the best performances by a right-handed hitter in history.
