Next world series game
The franchise has become known for its ability to surreptitiously teach facts, breed empathy for other cultures, and develop logic skills, while creating detective mystery experiences intended to entertain capricorn and libra friendship. One aspect of the series that has received consistent praise by critics is its diverse representation of strong, independent, and intelligent minority women. Carmen Sandiego herself is Latina.
If the player travels to an incorrect location, they receive nonsensical clues and will have to backtrack to the previous location to try again. If the player travels to the correct location, a simple animation of an obvious, but otherwise harmless V.I.L.E. henchman lurking across the screen is played. The gameplay continues to repeat in this manner as the player travels from location to location several times before catching up to the criminal. The user has only a limited amount of in-game time to travel, collect clues, and apprehend the criminal; every action taken uses up a portion of this time, and the criminal escapes if it runs out.
Bigham considered his relationship with this first Carmen game as one of “love-hate”, as he had been more inspired to develop action games, and Carlston had denied him opportunities to work on these at Broderbund while Carmen was still in production. Bigham was still not sure if the game would be successful, and once the game was complete by 1985, took a brief leave from Broderbund to work with Douglas E. Smith during that summer. When he returned to Broderbund, he was surprised that Carmen was popular from a market area they did not anticipate, that being from an educational standpoint, becoming a core piece of software in many schools.
In 1983, the founders of Broderbund Software, Gary and Doug Carlston, publicly discussed a plan to make edutainment one of their company’s three focus areas. The character of Carmen Sandiego was developed by David Siefkin, who drafted the first script of the game for Broderbund beside the Strawberry Canyon swimming pool of the University of California, Berkeley in 1984. Siefkin combined the character’s first and last names from the Brazilian singer and actress Carmen Miranda and the city of San Diego, California. Carmen Sandiego was just one of several villains in the original script. She was chosen for the title role by the early project manager Katherine Bird because her name suggested mystery and exoticism, as well as humor. Siefkin departed the project shortly after writing the first script to become a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. State Department, and served as a press and cultural attaché in several of the countries featured in the game.
Released on April 23, 1985, the game was a hit in schools, especially because it combined gameplay with education seamlessly. Teachers loved it, and students couldn’t get enough. The developers knew they had created something special, and soon the Carmen Sandiego franchise expanded into sequels, TV shows, and even a Netflix series!

The planets in Outlaws will adhere to Lucasfilm’s “80/20” rule of location design: 80% familiar, 20% alien or fantastical. Gerighty explained how Massive designed its version of Tatooine around this philosophy: “We start off with a biome, in this case, southeast African biomes as an inspiration, and then you put a twist on it to make it feel a little bit alien. If you think of the first shots, maybe not the first shots, but the first the shots of Tatooine. Beautiful, recognizable architecture, but two suns. For us, it’s having this huge mountain, and carved into it into the amberine of the mountain, the crystalline substance is a city, and these outcroppings of orange, very reflective material. That’s what brings the really alien nature to it. Familiar but fresh.”
Of course, maybe it’s more appropriate to call Star Wars Outlaws an ‘open worlds’ game, since it takes place across multiple planets. You can zip across many of them on a speeder in about “4 or 5 minutes,” comparable to three Assassin’s Creed Odyssey zones stitched together. You also don’t level up in Outlaws like most Ubisoft RPGs, instead unlocking skills and gear upgrades by meeting characters and completing quests.
World series game
Freeman’s blast to left field was deep enough to allow Jorge Soler to score all the way from first, chasing Astros reliever Blake Taylor, and bringing in Houston’s fifth pitcher of the game, Phil Maton.
Koufax didn’t start Game 1 because it fell on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, but he would still start three games, including a shutout in the clincher on two days’ rest. The Dodgers would return to the World Series the next year but were swept by the Orioles, and Koufax retired after the series.
The Dodgers scored 25 runs to the Yankees’ 24. New York outhomered, outhit and outwalked Los Angeles. And yet the Dodgers won the World Series in convincing fashion, over five games, because they were better in close contests. It took a walk-off grand slam in Game 1, a pair of 4-2 wins (Games 2 and 3) and a 7-6 nail-biter in Game 5, but the Dodgers didn’t make any enormous mistakes, and the Yankees handed them gift after gift in the deciding game.
