The notion of intellectual property in tattoo designs raises some novel questions. It is certainly possible to construct a scenario where a copyright, or trademark interests, can be manifest in a tattoo. If a person gets a Harley-Davidson logo tattoo, it is of a trademarked logo. If a person gets the lyrics to a song as a tattoo, it certainly could be of a copyrighted work. But what of a relatively simple configuration of angular lines, like the Tyson tattoo? Is that even an original work of authorship? Maybe. But who owns the copyright in the tattoo design? Might it be considered a work made for hire, vesting the rights in the recipient of the tattoo on whose skin it appears?

The Mike Tyson tattoo has been the subject of fascination for media and commentators who have offered various interpretations and analyses of its meaning. Tyson’s tattoo has been featured in countless articles, interviews and discussions.

Bagent became the starting quarterback for the Shepherd Rams as a freshman in 2018 and made his debut on September 1, 2018, against Notre Dame (OH), where he threw for 518 yards on 36 completions and 54 attempts and three touchdowns in a 35–33 loss. His completions, attempts, and passing yards were all school records. A week later against Glenville State, Bagent was named Mountain East Conference (MEC) Offensive Player of the Week when he completed 32 of 41 passes for 378 yards and four total touchdowns in a 41–24 win. In their 27–7 road win against West Virginia State, Bagent would win the award for the second-straight week with a 318-yard, two-touchdown performance. Against WV Wesleyan, Bagent set the school and MEC record for touchdown passes in a single game with seven in Shepherd’s 58–35 win.

While the tattoo itself might appear intimidating to some, its purpose goes beyond mere aesthetics. Tyson’s face tattoo holds a profound personal philosophy that encompasses his beliefs, values, and the wisdom he acquired over the years.

His boxing career began box in bing.com August 2018 with a white-collar boxing match against Deji Olatunji, in which he won via technical knockout. His professional boxing debut was against AnEsonGib in January 2020. He later faced and defeated former basketball player Nate Robinson, former MMA fighters Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz, and professional boxers Andre August and Ryan Bourland. In February 2023, Paul lost to Tommy Fury via split decision in his first fight with an active professional boxer. In 2021, Paul founded “Most Valuable Promotions,” a boxing promotion alongside his adviser Nakisa Bidarian, and founded Anti Fund, a venture capital firm with Geoffrey Woo.

With all due respect to Mr. Tyson, it wasn’t exactly a great acting performance. He was basically being himself–which is a likable and funny guy. There was something funny about Tyson singing Phil Collins with Zach Galafinakas and then punching him; for a moment one wonders whether people are laughing with Tyson or at him. Yet certainly they are laughing with him because how could we not embrace Iron Mike as a more human and relatable guy?

I understand that no objection was made to the appearance of the tattoo in the first Hangover movie. Perhaps that is because only Mike Tyson appeared in the first Hangover movie, whereas in Hangover II, in addition to Mike Tyson appearing again, actor Ed Helms’ character gets a similar, or perhaps identical tattoo on his face.

In a 2012 interview with Graham Bensinger, Mike Tyson discussed the story behind his face tattoo, saying, “I just thought it was a cool tattoo. I was going to get a bunch of hearts and stuff. That would have been really stupid. I was going to be the man of hearts, baby. I was very close. Victor Perez, the tattoo artist said ‘I ain’t doing that. I can’t do that’.”

It must be said that the body of Mike Tyson has several tattoos. The earliest he began to make more in prison, where he spent a period of his life. The body of the former boxer can be taken apart portraits of Mao Zedong, Che Guevara and Arthur Nash (black players in tennis).

Faith in a higher power is obviously a big part of Bagent’s life. Not so much for Bears fans, whose faith has been tested for decades. Neither praying to nor cursing God has seemed to work. Can’t-miss quarterbacks have missed.

One complication arose, though: While he only needed to complete a weightlifting internship to earn his Shepherd degree, Bagent said he learned he’d have to take between 30 and 50 additional credit hours to graduate as a transfer athlete.

“This is fascinating because this fight has so many questions. We have no clue what to expect from these two big-punching fighters. I could see any outcome in this fight. Wilder looked awful last time out and maybe he is a shot fighter. Zhang had moments against Joseph Parker but also struggled. It seems if you can get through the early going against Zhang you can outhustle him in the second half of the fight but that’s not Wilder’s style. Both have the power to hurt the other and it’s probably who strikes first. I don’t think this fight goes into the second half with both knowing one mistake could likely spell the end. I think Zhang’s southpaw stance and extra weight could be key. I’ll go without too much conviction for Zhang to catch and stop Wilder in five rounds.”
