After throwing 38 pitches in the fifth and surrendering five runs, Gerrit Cole made quick work of the bottom of the Dodgers’ lineup. It appears his night is done and the Yankees will go to the bullpen with the top of the Dodgers lineup coming up in the seventh.

Florida State took care of business today against Virginia to keep its season alive. After four thrilling games to open up the CWS, this was the lone result that was never really in doubt. Virginia’s Jay Woolfolk and FSU’s Carson Dorsey traded scoreless frames through the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third the ‘Noles got on the board thanks to a bases-loaded walk to James Tibbs III.
Thanks to timely hitting and excellent pitching, Texas A&M shut out Florida 6-0 to advance to the CWS Finals where it will take on Tennessee. The Aggies got on the board early thanks to four first inning walks that led to two runs. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth inning, but Gavin Grahovac hammered a double into the left-centerfield gap to stretch their lead to 3-0. After another shutout frame by Justin Lamkin (5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K), freshman Caden Sorrell provided the exclamation point with a two-run home run in the sixth.
The NCAA Division I baseball tournament starts after the culmination of the regular season, in late May or early June every year. The Men’s College World Series, the final stage of the tournament, caps off the season in June.
When All-American outfielder Braden Montgomery was lost for the season due to a broken ankle he suffered during game 1 of the College Station Super Regional against Oregon, Texas A&M called on sophomore Kaeden Kent to step into the lineup. At the time, he hadn’t started a game since May 10 and had just 77 at-bats on the season.

For the 23rd straight year, the World Series was televised in the United States by Fox, including the local affiliates WTXF-TV in Philadelphia and KRIV in Houston. Play-by-play announcer Joe Davis called the event for the first time, succeeding Joe Buck following the latter’s departure from the network after 25 years as its lead World Series voice. Davis was joined by Baseball Hall of Famer John Smoltz as color analyst, and Ken Rosenthal and Tom Verducci as field reporters. Kevin Burkhardt hosted the pregame and postgame shows, joined by analysts Frank Thomas, Alex Rodriguez, and David Ortiz.
• In the third inning, Teoscar Hernández and Freddie Freeman hit the second set of back-to-back home runs in Dodgers World Series history. They joined Pedro Guerrero and Steve Yeager in Game 5 in 1981.
• Freddie Freeman entered having homered in each game of the series and wasted no time adding Game 3 to the list, going yard in the first. He became just the third player to homer in Games 1, 2 and 3 of a World Series, joining 2002 Barry Bonds (Giants) and 1958 Hank Bauer (Yankees). Nobody has done so in the first four. The only player to homer in four straight games within a single World Series is George Springer, in 2017 Games 4-7.
