Until Friday’s matchup, the two teams have not faced each other in the big game since 1981, which the Dodgers won thanks to stellar play from the team’s bullpen, including pitcher Fernando Valenzuela.

Freddie Freeman said he couldn’t get any sleep last night after his walkoff grand slam. He tossed and turned all night, and his kids got up and refused to take a bath. But, he said, he found some energy when he got to the ballpark.
Yamamoto is now through four innings while allowing just one run, and he’s allowed just the homer to Juan Soto with two strikeouts while throwing 62 pitches. He’ll be back out there for the fifth with a 4-1 cushion.

The Dodgers hope to get similar length from Game 2 starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto that they got from Jack Flaherty, who pitched into the sixth in the opener. There’s an off-day after Game 2, but with a bullpen day looming in the middle of the Series, the Dodgers don’t want to overexpose their relievers.
