While the boss battles are the highlight of the Dark Souls series, the punishing levels are a close second. Each area offers beautiful scenery, if not completely ruined by the dangerous enemies looking to kill you at all times. If that isn’t enough, the concept of rest spots, or Bonfires as they are known in the series, are also dangerous. When you rest to refill your health and healing potions at Bonfires, all the enemies you killed come back to life as well, making trudging through older areas or fighting toward boss of an area that much more challenging.

Even when TWO FromSoftware games are on this list, we still have to declare “Battletoads” as the hardest game of all time. There’s simply too much that this game throws at players that have caused many a controller to break. For starters, those speeder bike levels… DEAR GAWD, the speeder bike levels! The increasing speed demands fast inputs that are almost impossible to execute with primitive controllers. And if you thought co-op would make the game easy, you’re dead wrong! It can be really easy to hit your friends and possibly cost them a life AND if just one of you die, you both have to restart the level. If there was one word to describe “Battletoads”, it’d be “sadistic”.

While 2D platformers have always been challenging, it is about time we give props to one of the classics, Super Mario Bros. 2, a.k .a. The Lost Levels. The game was released in 1986, a year after the original. The game retains a lot of the original feel, which was a good game but added a bucket full of difficulty. There were more challenging obstacles and even poisonous mushrooms. Nintendo did not skip a beat when they were deciding how tough to make this game, and it’s still evident.

Ah, yes, Capcom’s most infamous game in their entire catalog, where Arthur must traverse several hazardous areas to rescue Princess Prin from Lucifer. When it comes to talking about difficult games, you simply can’t leave this one out of the conversation. The game is constantly spawning monsters that can kill you in two hits. On top of that, health is rare, and the platforming requires a hefty amount of precision. As if it wasn’t hard enough to beat the game on your first run, you’ll have to defeat Lucifer a second time if you want to see the true ending. Although, is the stress really worth it?

Missions are a bit of a mixed bag. • The Dodgers and Yankees had a World Series preview June 7-9 at Yankee Stadium, with Los Angeles winning two of the three games. Teoscar Hernández had a go-ahead, two-run double in the 11th inning of the first game, a 2-1 Dodgers win, then hit two homers in an 11-3 rout the next night. The Yanks salvaged the finale with a 6-4 win, powered by Trent Grisham’s three-run homer off Tyler Glasnow.

• The Game 3 performance gave Freeman five World Series homers in nine games. That’s tied with Chase Utley for the second-most in a player’s first nine career World Series games, behind only Springer, with six.

To go through that, to overcome an injury, to win a game for your team (the team you grew up cheering for) like that … that’s just the dream of what baseball — and really, sports — can be. Later in the Freeman interview, Freeman apologized to his dad for screaming in his face after hitting that homer. You weren’t the only one screaming, Freddie. That was one of the coolest baseball things we’ve ever seen.

History won’t be on their side if they lose tonight. Since MLB has adopted the 2-3-2 format in a best-of-seven series, teams are 11-45 when losing the first two on the road, with World Series records being 7-27, according to MLB.

Tommy Pham singled, meaning he went 4 for 4 in this game after a 2 for 20 NLCS. After a sac bunt and a strikeout, the D-backs decided to put together a two-out rally. Two straight batters walked before Ketel Marte singled up to the middle to plate two. Then Corbin Carroll singled home another.

The top of the eighth inning gave us plenty of weird for this night, highlighted by a tough jog for Philly slugger Kyle Schwarber. He smashed a 2-2 pitch from Rafael Montero for what initially appeared – and was ruled — to be a 2-run homer inside the foul pole in right to make the game, 5-3.

The Dodgers hope to get similar length from Game 2 starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto that they got from Jack Flaherty, who pitched into the sixth in the opener. There’s an off-day after Game 2, but with a bullpen day looming in the middle of the Series, the Dodgers don’t want to overexpose their relievers.
