With the win, the Dodgers won their eighth World Series championship in franchise history, tying their longtime rivals the San Francisco Giants for the second-most among National League clubs and the fifth-most overall. The Dodgers joined their 2020 team, the 2018 Red Sox, the 2016 Cubs, the 2013 Red Sox, the 2009 Yankees, the 2007 Red Sox, and the 1998 Yankees as teams to win a World Series after having the best regular-season record in MLB in the wild card era. The Dodgers also set the record for most runs to come from behind from in a clinching game. The World Series MVP Award went to Freeman, the first player to homer in the first four games and hit a walk-off grand slam in the World Series. His 12 RBIs tied the World Series record set in 1960 by Bobby Richardson. Freeman became the 12th player to win regular season MVP and World Series MVP in a career.

Among the three, Buehler was probably the most uncertain. He returned from a second Tommy John surgery midway through the year, struggled through a 5.38 ERA in 16 regular-season starts and seemed to have lost his overpowering fastball.

NEW YORK — The Yankees vs. Dodgers Fall Classic shifts to New York for World Series Game 3 on Monday night and it’s the first time a Fall Classic game has been in the Big Apple since 2015 (when the Mets hosted the Royals). It’s the first Yankees home World Series game since 2009, when they clinched the title in Game 6. The Dodgers enter Game 3 with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, but by no means is it over.

Going into Game 3, the biggest question was Shohei Ohtani, specifically his left shoulder. He partially dislocated it on a slide in Game 2 and favored it throughout Game 3 — Ohtani held his jersey while running the bases as a makeshift sling — but did play, and drew a four-pitch walk to lead off the game. There’s no reason to think the presumptive NL MVP will miss Game 4 on Tuesday.

New York will need better performances from its batters, as Soto led the way but didn’t get enough help. Giancarlo Stanton notably went 1-for-4 at the plate while Aaron Judge’s postseason woes continued, going 0-for-4.
