We worked over details like the exact colour of ghost grass, the nature of the Shadow and the appropriate colour of the exotic colour of the jungle in Ulthos, but George had a very good idea of his vision for the far east. That kind of clear picture is great to work from.

Understanding the political map is essential for following the intricate storylines of Game of Thrones. The map not only helps to visualize the locations of each house and their strongholds but also provides insights into the power dynamics and rivalries that drive the plot. Whether it’s the North, ruled by House Stark, or the Riverlands under House Tully, the map illustrates how geography and power are closely intertwined in the Game of Thrones universe.

After I recruited another player, it quickly became clear that Scott Pilgrim vs The World is meant to be played in co-op. We cruised through the first two levels in our first try, and only fell to the third level boss because we were low on lives, which carry over until game over. Since you can level up, eventually m-m-m-m-my Ramona could have cleared the first level on her own, but it’s definitely better in a group. For this updated re-rerelease, there’s online multiplayer too, which really opens the game up and means no one needs to struggle on trying to play guitar, bass, and drums alone.

In addition to preserving the game as it was originally, the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition also adds the Knives Chau and Wallace Wells DLC to the game, which unlocks two additional playable characters. There are also some basic multiplayer modes to mess around with, but they aren’t anything special. For the main levels, though, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is at its best when playing with a friend (or friends) in co-op. It helps mitigate some of the difficulty and really homes in on the spirit of classic beat ‘em up games.

In their review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, IGN called Anamanaguchi’s soundtrack “possibly the best soundtrack on PS3”. Greatest games of all time lists have, for all time, gone the same way; a team of video game journalists sit down and put together a ranking that is almost predetermined – a seemingly canonical hall of fame that attempts to cover off as many bases as possible. Here at GQ, we thought we’d embrace chaos instead. Rather than shuffle Ocarina of Time, Dark Souls and Ico across a big list according to our own whims, we decided to get our friends involved.

But what makes Dread so special — and one of the best games of 2023 — is that under its foreboding story and twisted environments is a fishing game that grows more complex with every outing, centered around an upgrade system that feels amazing to progress through. As the dangers around you grow, so too does your ship’s capabilities. And by adventuring into battles — metaphorical and otherwise — with the seas’ most dastardly critters, you’ll always come out on the other side with some upgrades that allow you to catch even better fish and build an even bigger boat.

Something very, very interesting started to happen in the retro version of WoW this year. While Blizzard has been content to march one half of the game’s community forward through its history of expansions, it’s started to come up with creative ways to keep the other half — the half that wants to stay in the game as it was at launch — engaged.

I don’t love to cook. For me, it’s more a necessity than anything else. So it’s not often that a piece of media — or anything, really — leaves me with the feeling that I need to make something, to spend time in the kitchen reveling in the tedium of chopping and the sizzle of onions frying.
