In the Boy Meets World episode “Career Day” Cory is embarrassed by his dad Allen’s presentation of his career as a grocer in front of the class. When he talks to Shawn about this in the lunchroom, he references the Bill Buckner play. “Do you remember that uh, that World Series game where the first baseman let that EASY ground ball go under his legs and his team lost and he was humiliated in front of the entire world? The Cardinals jumped right back in the game, taking advantage of a Michael Young error and scoring on a Yadier Molina groundout to knot the game at three. With the Cardinals in a prime position to rally ahead, Matt Holliday, standing 90 feet (27 m) away as the possible go-ahead run, was picked off at third by catcher Mike Napoli. Holliday injured his finger sliding in on the play and was forced to leave the game. After Ogando walked Nick Punto, Derek Holland came in to pitch and the Rangers were able to slip out of the inning with the score still tied.
I recall talking to a dejected Adrián Beltré after Game 6. He said he was thinking about how he was going to celebrate the World Series win. Was he going to throw his glove up in the air? Was he going to charge the mound? Was he going to run around the outfield? He did none of it. They lost and then lost Game 7.
