To the eighth inning we go in Omaha as Tennessee holds a 5-1 lead against North Carolina. The Volunteers added to their lead in the sixth inning on a two-out single by Dean Curley to score Colby Backus against UNC reliever Ben Peterson.
As with almost every strategy used to neutralize Florida’s slugging first baseman, it failed. Caglianone drilled a single through the shift in the eighth inning and roped a double into the right field corner at 117 mph in the sixth.

Seager won his first of two World Series MVPs by slashing .400/.556/.700 for the Dodgers against the Rays. After already capturing the NLCS MVP trophy, Seager scored seven runs, hit two homers and had five RBIs in the World Series. Seager won another World Series MVP last season with the Texas Rangers.
This was, instead, the key to a whole lotta shaky nerves in Los Angles tonight. Aaron Judge cracked a two-run homer in the first inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. went back-to-back, and then the Yankees added on two more soon after. Jack Flaherty only got four outs. This was not the script! But with a lineup as relentless as the Dodgers’, and with the generosity of the Yankees defense in the fifth inning, a comeback was in the cards in Game 5.
Against Cole, the Dodgers will roll out the same nine players they did in Game 1 and have throughout most of the World Series. The only change for Game 5 is in the bottom third of the lineup, where Tommy Edman has been bumped up to seventh and is followed by Will Smith and Gavin Lux.
What also tracks: Three of the 10 most influential plays tonight, by win probability change, began with the baseball in Kahnle’s right hand. Kiké Hernández’s leadoff single stung (8.8 percent change). Tommy Edman’s infield single seriously hurt (12.1 percent). And walking Will Smith on four pitches (16.6 percent), well, that was basically ballgame.
9:18 p.m. — The third inning comes to an end, but not before the Yankees found some life. They have a long way to go in this series, but Volpe’s grand slam could be a nice boost for New York’s momentum.
Gleyber Torres fouled out to right field, where Mookie Betts had to reach into the stands to make the catch. But a Yankees fan literally tried to rip the ball out of Betts’s glove after he made the grab.

Game world series 2011 6
When I think of that game in particular I remember that it was, frankly, kind of terrible for about six innings. Sloppy and ugly, and nobody had any idea whatsoever that it was going to turn into an all-time classic. Kind of a disappointment, really, after so much fun stuff had led up to it. Even the tying hit, arguably, happened in part because of a mistake — Nelson Cruz sure looked like he wanted no part of the wall.
We won’t give a full recap here — the key things to remember are that David Freese tied it, Josh Hamilton gave the Rangers the lead again in the 10th, Lance Berkman tied it again, and Freese won it an inning later — and you can watch the epic ninth inning in the video above.
The Cardinals entered the Fall Classic having proven their mettle, overcoming a rash of early-season injuries and a 10 1/2-game deficit on Aug. 25 to sneak past the Braves in the National League Wild Card just to get into the postseason.
The Series began on October 19, earlier than the previous season, so that no games would be played in November. The Cardinals enjoyed home-field advantage for the series because the NL won the 2011 All-Star Game 5–1 on July 12. The 2011 World Series was the first World Series to go all seven games since the 2002 Series.
Albert Pujols joined Babe Ruth (1926, 1928) and Reggie Jackson (1977) as the only players in baseball history up to that time to hit three home runs in a World Series game. (Pablo Sandoval would also accomplish the feat the following year.) Pujols was 5-for-6 with two singles, three HRs, four runs scored, and six RBIs. Yadier Molina added two doubles, driving in four runs. David Freese continued his postseason 13-game hitting streak getting two hits (one double), driving in two runs. Pujols became the first player in World Series history to get hits in four consecutive innings: fourth (single), fifth (single), sixth (HR, three RBIs), and seventh (HR, two RBIs). He tied records for most HRs (3), most hits (5), and most RBIs (6) in a World Series game, and established a new record with 14 total bases. Pujols’ Game 3 performance led to Rangers pitchers walking him three times intentionally in Game 4.
