There are nights when I’ll dream the Rangers won game-six. I’ll wake up joyous, remembering our championship winning season. Only to come back down to earth as a fan of the team that was one-strike away twice.< https://iconicint.com/review/borgata/ /p>

Josh Hamilton and Michael Young had RBI doubles in the first inning against Chris Carpenter, who became the first pitcher in a decade to make three starts in one Series thanks to the unnecessary postponement of Game 6 due to forecasted rain that did not occur. David Freese had a game-tying two-run double in the bottom of the first, breaking the postseason RBI record, and Allen Craig hit a go-ahead homer in the third. Craig even robbed a home run from Nelson Cruz in the sixth. St. Louis added two runs off Scott Feldman in the fifth inning without getting a hit. Yadier Molina walked with the bases loaded, C. J. Wilson came on to relieve Feldman and promptly hit Rafael Furcal with his first pitch, forcing in another run to make it 5–2. In the seventh inning, Lance Berkman scored on a Molina single to make it 6–2.

I was working for the New York Daily News covering the Cardinals-Rangers series in 2011, and when Neftali Feliz had Freese down to his final strike in the ninth, I thought to myself, “It’s pretty cool that the Rangers are about to win their first-ever World Series and I get to be here to see it.” I had already sent in the first version of my game story (central time zones are brutal for newspaper deadlines back east), so I just needed to make sure the 7-5 final score was correct. It was not.

The Vols responded with Dylan Dreiling’s sac fly to score Blake Burke at third, granting the Vols the lead again. Dean Curley slammed another RBI single to extend Tennessee’s lead, scoring Hunter Ensley. Tennessee finishes the third up 3-1.

“(Pitching coach Max Weiner) tells us all the time, if some guy comes in doesn’t have a good outing the next guy can’t do that,” Aschenbeck said. “Our job as a relief picture is to come in and pick up the guys in front of us. To come into that opportunity, it was awesome because the atmosphere was crazy. It’s the College World Series. Everything’s cool about it.”

A&M, meanwhile, is in an uncertain position on the mound. Schlossnagle said he has “no idea” who the Aggies will start. They’re down a starter after lefthander Shane Sdao was injured in super regionals and have only started Prager and lefthander Justin Lamkin, who threw five innings Wednesday, in Omaha.

Texas A&M on Saturday defeated Tennessee, 9-5, in game 1 of the College World Series finals. The Aggies’ started hot, getting a leadoff home run from Gavin Grahovac, and never looked back. They opened a six-run lead in the third inning and got a solid start from All-American Ryan Prager, who was pitching on short rest. He threw four good innings before handing the ball over to the bullpen, which held off the Volunteers’ comeback bid.

Although Ohtani could not pitch in 2024 due to elbow surgery, he was tremendously successful as a batter and baserunner. Playing at designated hitter, Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to break the 50 home runs, 50 stolen bases barrier in a single season. He also surpassed Shawn Green’s Dodgers single-season home run record with 54 home runs. At the All-Star Game, the Dodgers sent six players—Ohtani, Betts, Hernández, Glasnow, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith. At the trade deadline, the Dodgers added starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, set-up reliever Michael Kopech, and utility player Tommy Edman; Edman won the NLCS MVP Award after recording 11 runs batted in (RBIs) in the series.

Fat Joe performed “New York” and “All the Way Up” prior to Game 3. New York native Leslie Odom Jr. sang the national anthem and Derek Jeter threw the ceremonial first pitch. Joe’s performance was mostly panned by fans on social media. Clarke Schmidt was the starting pitcher for the Yankees and Walker Buehler for the Dodgers.

In the top of the first inning, Freddie Freeman hit a two-run home run, breaking the record he had tied in the previous game with the sixth consecutive World Series game he had homered in. In the bottom of the first inning, Gleyber Torres flied out to right fielder Mookie Betts in foul territory for the first out of the inning. As he leapt to make the catch against the wall, Betts was accosted by two Yankees fans who attempted to strip the ball from his glove. The fans were ejected from the stadium and banned from the rest of the series. The Yankees scored a run in the bottom of the second inning after Anthony Volpe drew a walk, Austin Wells hit a double, and Alex Verdugo hit an RBI groundout. In the bottom of the third inning, Volpe hit a two-out grand slam off of Daniel Hudson to give the Yankees a 5–2 lead. Will Smith hit a home run for the Dodgers in the fifth inning to cut the lead to two runs. Later that inning, Tommy Edman scored when Freeman beat out a fielder’s choice to first base after the Dodgers won a review challenge on what had originally been called an inning-ending double play. Wells hit a solo home run for the Yankees in the sixth inning to increase the lead to two. The Yankees scored five more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Dodger reliever Brett Honeywell Jr. on an RBI fielder’s choice by Verdugo, a three-run home run by Gleyber Torres, and an RBI single by Aaron Judge, extending the lead to 11–4. Tim Mayza closed out Game 4 to make the Yankees the first team since the Cincinnati Reds in 1970 to force a fifth game and avoid being swept after having lost the first three games in a World Series.

Game 1 featured starting pitchers Jack Flaherty for the Dodgers and Gerrit Cole for the Yankees. Country singer Brad Paisley performed “The Star-Spangled Banner”. In tribute to Fernando Valenzuela, his former Dodger teammates Orel Hershiser and Steve Yeager placed a ball on the blue No. 34 painted on the pitcher’s mound instead of throwing out a ceremonial first pitch.
