In June, Aschenbrenner put out a 165-page manifesto arguing that AI will outpace college graduates by “2025/2026” and that “we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word” by the end of the decade sdr ai. But others in the industry scoff at such claims. When Aschenbrenner tweeted a chart to show how fast he thought AI would continue to improve given how fast it had improved in last few years, the tech investor Christian Keil replied that by the same logic, his baby son, who had doubled in size since he was born, would weigh 7.5 trillion tons by the time he was 10.
In the United States, many urban schools use algorithms for enrollment decisions based on a variety of considerations, such as parent preferences, neighborhood qualities, income level, and demographic background. According to Brookings researcher Jon Valant, the New Orleans–based Bricolage Academy “gives priority to economically disadvantaged applicants for up to 33 percent of available seats. In practice, though, most cities have opted for categories that prioritize siblings of current students, children of school employees, and families that live in school’s broad geographic area.”45 Enrollment choices can be expected to be very different when considerations of this sort come into play.
At a high level, generative models encode a simplified representation of their training data, and then draw from that representation to create new work that’s similar, but not identical, to the original data.
Artificial intelligence is transforming the way the world runs, and will continue to do so as time marches on. Now is an ideal time to get involved and get a degree in IT that can help propel you to an exciting AI career. You can be a part of the world-changing revolution that is artificial intelligence.

Government legislation and safety regulations, along with a deep sense of anxiety over what happens when we hand over control to machines, are all still potential roadblocks for a fully automated future on our roads.
In September 2024, Microsoft announced an agreement with Constellation Energy to re-open the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant to provide Microsoft with 100% of all electric power produced by the plant for 20 years. Reopening the plant, which suffered a partial nuclear meltdown of its Unit 2 reactor in 1979, will require Constellation to get through strict regulatory processes which will include extensive safety scrutiny from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. If approved (this will be the first ever US re-commissioning of a nuclear plant), over 835 megawatts of power – enough for 800,000 homes – of energy will be produced. The cost for re-opening and upgrading is estimated at $1.6 billion (US) and is dependent on tax breaks for nuclear power contained in the 2022 US Inflation Reduction Act. The US government and the state of Michigan are investing almost $2 billion (US) to reopen the Palisades Nuclear reactor on Lake Michigan. Closed since 2022, the plant is planned to be reopened in October 2025. The Three Mile Island facility will be renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center after Chris Crane, a nuclear proponent and former CEO of Exelon who was responsible for Exelon spinoff of Constellation.
Friendly AI are machines that have been designed from the beginning to minimize risks and to make choices that benefit humans. Eliezer Yudkowsky, who coined the term, argues that developing friendly AI should be a higher research priority: it may require a large investment and it must be completed before AI becomes an existential risk.
The recent evolution of AI, particularly large language models, is closely tied to the surge in computational power. Each dot on this chart represents a distinct language model. The horizontal axis shows the training computation used (on a logarithmic scale), measured in total floating point operations (“FLOP”). The vertical axis indicates the model’s performance on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) benchmark, an extensive knowledge test composed of thousands of multiple-choice questions across 57 diverse subjects, from science to history.
AI and machine learning have also entered the realm of consumer finance. For example, banks use AI chatbots to inform customers about services and offerings and to handle transactions and questions that don’t require human intervention. Similarly, Intuit offers generative AI features within its TurboTax e-filing product that provide users with personalized advice based on data such as the user’s tax profile and the tax code for their location.
Artificial intelligence stocks
Other investors are clearly eager to jump in despite uncertainty. Excitement around the possibilities in AI helped AI stocks pull ahead of the market in the first half of 2024, and a lull in the summer was followed by an autumn rebound. The Morningstar Global Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Index has returned 40.54% for the year to date, versus 28.0% for the broad-based Morningstar US Market Index as of Dec. 12, 2024.
CEO Shantanu Narayen provided Adobe with another growth leg in 2009 with the acquisition of Omniture, a leading web analytics solution that serves as the foundation of the digital experience segment that Adobe has used as a platform to layer in a variety of other marketing and advertising solutions. Adobe benefits from the natural cross-selling opportunity from Creative Cloud to the business and operational aspects of marketing and advertising. On the heels of the Magento, Marketo, and Workfront acquisitions, we expect Adobe to continue to focus its M&A efforts on the digital experience segment and other emerging areas.

Its professional visualization segment, which includes its omniverse, also has a lot of potential in AI. Nvidia’s GPUs could someday be supplanted by more specialized processors designed for AI, but the company is in an enviable position for now.

With the introduction of ChatGPT (and other tools that followed soon after), AI was no longer a vague term conjuring images of cyborgs. It was no longer a buzzword used primarily in enterprise C-Suites. Suddenly, AI was something that people could use.
Adopting AI and implementing it into your call center is a powerful way to boost efficiency and improve the customer experience. And there’s no going back from the widespread deployment of AI within the call center industry—75% of organizations are expected to adopt AI on a mass scale in the next five years.
A global bank implemented AI to automate its call center operations and provide real-time assistance to customers. The AI system handled a high volume of calls, reducing wait times and improving service levels. This led to a 25% increase in customer satisfaction and a significant reduction in operational costs.
Chatbot technology is advancing fast. OpenAI’s development of ChatGPT-3 has opened the door for businesses to easily provide self-service options to their customers, which can dramatically reduce hold and resolution times in customer service. And OpenAI recently released a new language model, GTP-3, which has the capacity to produce far more realistic text than prior models.
It’s further improved by adding better analytics and reporting tools, which can help improve internal workflows and give agents more relevant training sessions. Paired with personalization features brought about by integrating with customer relationship managers (CRMs), customers can have a unique, personal experience that’s memorable and effective.
