Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga sees the funny side of Star Wars, but it never laughs at it.

Star Wars’ history with video games is decidedly hit and miss, but we’re happy to report that Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga undoubtedly in the former category, and if you have any fondness for the films and enjoy talking Lego figures cracking dumb jokes, then you should probably get it played ASAP.

I’m fascinated by all things tech, but if you were going to leave me on a desert island, I’d probably ask for my Nintendo Switch, a drone, and a pair of noise-cancelling cans to block out the relentless seagull racket. Outlaws spends its first 10 hours or so introducing Kay and her salamander-cat-whatever partner, Nix; the story’s inciting incident (a heist in her home of Canto Bight that goes so phenomenally wrong it earns her a death warrant from a crime syndicate); and their resulting flight off-world to newer pastures. Kay steals an old but valuable ship called the Trailblazer during her escape and proceeds to crash it on Toshara, an inhabited moon in another part of the galaxy. The opening hours also introduce a number of major characters, all the core gameplay systems, and the variety of open-world activities you can get down to, before culminating in a quest to fix the Trailblazer’s hyperdrive. That upgrade opens up access to the rest of the planets in the game: icy Himalayas analog Kijimi, swampy jungle Akiva, and familiar desert hellhole Tatooine.

They’ve now spun off highly unlikely comebacks three games in a row. But this one — woah. There’s a word for what they did in this game. And “impossible” feels like that word, even though that means ignoring what I just said two paragraphs ago.

New monetization models require new metrics for success — monthly active users, player retention rates, in-game revenue, etc. — but one of the industry’s biggest questions remains: What are the best-selling video games of all time?

Online multiplayer shooters, like CS:GO, Fortnite, and PUBG, are currently dominating the gaming world, thanks to professional gamers, esports tournaments, Twitch streamers, and YouTube gaming channels. Others have spawned sequels that out play and out perform their original games. Some games that have been released years ago are still popular today, like League of Legends, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, and Dota 2. Other good games trending now include Fall Guys, Among Us, Overwatch, and Rocket League.
