Their seminal debut album, Walking On A Dream, which the musicians described as “a spiritual road movie” spawned iconic singles “Walking On A Dream” and “We Are The People.” The critically acclaimed second LP, disco-pop Ice On The Dune, featured “Alive” and “DNA” and saw the band tour the world. Third LP Two Vines found the band welcoming guests like Lindsey Buckingham, members of David Bowie’s band from the Blackstar sessions, and Wendy Melvoin from Prince & the Revolution and featured singles “High And Low” and “Way To Go.” 2024’s Ask That God, with hits “Changes,” “Cherry Blossom” and “Music on the Radio,” demonstrated why they are, in the words of HYPEBEAST, “everyone’s favorite esteemed, electric Australian duo.”
My second time seeing EOTS and it was super fun. The opener Neil Francis was fun & a good lead-in for the positive vibes of EOTS. The backup dancers had interesting costumes as always and accompanied bright backing visuals. It all matched up well with their album art & music videos. Even in the light rain, the crowd started energetic and sang along to every song.
Following several collaborative efforts, Littlemore and Steele joined together, with Littlemore playing keyboards and background vocals while Steele has handled vocals and guitar. Playing electric music, Empire of the Sun earned certified double platinum status on its first album while winning multiple awards.

Set for December 13 release via Capitol Records, the bundle will also include new remixes by Adam Sellouk and southstar. “We Are The People” was the second single from Empire of the Sun’s 2008 debut album. Walking On A Dream, following the title track, which has amassed over one billion streams.

Seeing Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun at Marymoor Park was the second time I got to see the group. The first time I saw EofS at the Paramount in Seattle last year, Nick Littlemore did not show up. I don’t know why the other band member doesn’t show up for live shows. I guess it doesn’t matter since Luke Steele has more than enough great stage presence. He came down into the crowd during “Celebrate”, where I luckily got to see into the microphone!!! Mr. Steele had a special “Surround Sound in Seattle” guitar to smash on the stage after Walking on a Dream. The dancers at one point at t-shirts cannons, I was not lucky enough to catch one since I was at the front.

But then in extending his explanation even further, Luke has also stated that this track is “about so many other things”. And as for him personally, he gets cheesed off when his partner – or anyone else for that matter – tries to slap a set-in-stone interpretation on the tune. As an artist, he prefers that listeners come up with their own understandings of his work. And “Walking on a Dream” is no exception!
So all things considered, we know definitely that there is something interpersonal and interdependent going on in this song. It is abundantly clear that the addressee fulfills a special, emotional role in the life of the signer. But outside of that, going out of our way to try to understand the specifics of this union is obviously not how the duo intended this song to be enjoyed. For instance, in doing so it is quite easy to conclude that this is a traditional, romantic love song, even though it apparently isn’t. But either way the singer’s relationship with the addressee has made him believe that indeed “two people become one”. So we can see conclusively that the featured association is one which is edifying his existence.
I loved this song when it came out and recently rediscovered it thanks to the L-I-V-I-N’ reels that are going around. It’s just the perfect song! The vibe, chord structure, timing, hook, lyrics… it’s just phenomenal.
