Half-Life 2 forever changed our expectations for what a first-person shooter could be. Its richly imagined world and wonderfully paced gameplay is a delight, never letting up and brimming with invention rich palms casino no deposit bonus. The Gravity Gun is obviously the poster child of Half-Life 2, turning each environment into a tactile playground in which you can create improvised weapons and solve basic but clever physics puzzles – and its importance can’t be overstated – but there’s an awful lot more here. We’re introduced to Alyx Vance, a supporting character with a rare warmth and intelligence. We’re transported to an iconic city, where Combine barricades loom with grim authority, and Striders stalk the streets with an otherworldly menace. We get to set Antlions on our enemies and in which we play fetch with a robot Dog. In short, it is a truly memorable piece of game design. – Cam Shea (Read Our Review)
More than simply being the first fully three-dimensional RTS game, Homeworld’s legacy lies with its storytelling. Where previous titles in the genre had tied missions together with barely coherent narratives, Relic’s space opera told a heart-rending story of galactic refugees fleeing persecution to find their ancestral home. From the initial genocide that sees the death of millions to the final conflict with the Taidan empire, Homeworld made you a part of its tale. Enormous space battles threw fighters, frigates, and destroyers together in spectacular fashion, while the sparse, endless beauty of space was perfectly captured by the striking visuals and Paul Ruskay’s haunting score. Remastered in 2015, its stellar landscapes are even more beautiful to behold, leaving no excuse for newcomers not to seek it out.
The only thing better than one Kirby game is eight Kirby games all tied together in a neat little bow. Kirby Super Star is often thought of as the best game in the franchise because it offered fans the option of what kind of Kirby they wanted to play, while also offering up two-player co-op. The great cave offensive is many players’ personal highlight, as it offered a Metroidvania-style Kirby game we had never seen before. Kirby Super Star paved the way for more modern games, such as the recent Forgotten Land with its high variety of gameplay styles. If you are ever in the mood to see why Kirby became such an enduring series, this game will give you the crib notes.
Blizzard performed alchemy here. Overwatch should be leaden – a Team Fortress cover version with two-and-a-half modes and a MOBA approach to character design. And yet what we have is gold. The key here is in how Blizzard looked beyond simply making a good shooter – it made an interesting one. Its backstory is PG-13 Pixar, its characters are diverse and lovable, and much more. Pro gamers, cosplayers, fanfic writers, ARG detectives and everyone in between have all been given a reason to play a single game – no mean feat. And this isn’t to play down the game itself – Blizzard didn’t make a Team Fortress clone, it made a successor. It’s a swift, satisfying shooter, with a whirling game-to-game internal meta of character picks and counter-picks. – Joe Skrebels (Read Our Review)

With the arrival of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC January 23rd, Square Enix is once again asking players to be cool about mods. In an interview with Epic Games, director Naoki Hamaguchi asked that modders, “not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate.” A similar ask was made on behalf of Final Fantasy XVI, and like that request, this one will likely be ignored as well.
On desktop and Android (iOS is still audio-only for now), you can now have the miniplayer visible while you play one of the games from YouTube’s library, as shown here with The Vergecast’s holiday episode.

According to Yurko, Carcassonne is a “classic,” which asks players to build cities, roads, and farms. While the gameplay is “very simple,” the complexity and fun come from its numerous expansions, making it a game you can play for years to come.
Every essentials list needs a blood-chilling game. Our pick is Nemesis. The gameplay focuses less on killing and more on finding ways to escape, avoid, or outwit danger. It is truly a survival-horror experience brought to life on your tabletop.
The board game renaissance shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. As more titles leap from hobby stores into the mainstream it can be hard to know where to begin your personal journey into this fandom. You could just put money down on every hot new title that goes the crowdfunding route, but even then you’d run out of shelf space before long. That’s where Polygon can help.

Another strategy involves pattern recognition. If the word seems to follow the structure of a specific kind of word, like a verb in the past tense or a plural noun, you can make educated guesses based on that. For example, if you have “_ _ _ e d,” you might guess that the word is a past tense verb and consider common letters that could fit the pattern. Managing incorrect guesses is also important; it’s advisable to keep track of wrong letters to avoid repeated errors. Adopting these strategies can make your Hangman gameplay more effective.
