Production of the game was discontinued in 1990 due to the fall of the Eastern Bloc and drastic border and government changes that resulted.
In Where in Hell is Carmen Santiago?, the players need to use detective skills and knowledge of facts from Canticle One of Dante’s Commedia: Inferno. Players have 140 turns to be successful, and can do the following commands per turn: move up, move down, view map, inventory, call a name, use an item, look around, search for items, save, restart, quit, and sound off.

Carmen Sandiego is one of the top 30 longest-running video game series, having existed for just over 30 years with the release of Returns in 2015. By 1997, Carmen Sandiego games had been translated into three different languages, and over 5 million copies had been sold into schools and homes worldwide. The three 1990s-airing television shows have together been nominated for 45 Daytime Emmy Awards (winning 8), while World also won a Peabody Award. They had a combined viewing audience of over 10 million viewers each week.

Licensing laws by the rightful owner/creator and their publisher decide on when the game is open to Public Domain legal free use. If you want to support the developers, so that they can make more COOL games and software, don’t be a cheap a$$, buy the game or send a taxable donation.

If you were watching over someone’s shoulder as they played this game, and if they didn’t die at all, it would almost be like watching a cartoon. (Assuming you ignore the player frantically banging away at his keyboard, that is).The BadThis game only really had two minor problems, but they combine, Voltron-like, to form One Big Problem.

Safe areas in the levels are indicated by a light green color. Both the starting and end points share this color with some of the longer levels including extra green spaces serving as checkpoints. There will also be levels containing small yellow orbs acting as Coins and you’ll need to collect all of them in order to complete the level. You don’t have to collect the game in a sitting and can return to the level you left off at from the main menu screen.
This might sound easy in the beginning but wait until you have to pick up keys to open gates and move past fast moving enemy squares. You have an endless amount of lives, so don’t give up!
