WWE games have been steadily improving since the series bounced back from the low point that was WWE 2K20, and this year’s sports entertainment simulator is a main event contender aztec afterlife. With polished fundamentals, a wealth of content, and a Showcase mode featuring the best of Wrestlemania across the decades, WWE 2K24 is the undisputed champion of the pro wrestling genre.
This is a list of video games that multiple video game journalists or magazines have considered to be among the best of all time. The games listed here are included on at least six separate “best/greatest of all time” lists from different publications (inclusive of all time periods, platforms, and genres), as chosen by their editorial staffs.
Cocoon has one-off puzzles that are downright brilliant, but what makes it truly great is the sum of its parts. The pacing of each section feeds smoothly from one challenge to the next. Like the best puzzle games, Cocoon presents instances where an earlier brain teaser might serve as an unsaid tutorial that teaches you a step for a later, more complicated puzzle. Cocoon presents challenges, but it’s also just a joy to play. It is one of the most memorable puzzle games I’ve ever played. —AD
Game 1 world series
Now, we have a little less than 24 hours to come down from the emotion of Game 1 and get ready for Game 2. One thing we seem to have learned is that Freeman’s ankle is feeling better. He was running better — especially on his first-inning triple — which could keep him in the Game 2 lineup against Yankees lefty Carlos Rodón. The Dodgers will counter with their biggest offseason pitching addition, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Both Rodón and Yamamoto have pitched well in their past two postseason starts.
And now, with the Astros always a threat to erupt offensively, it will likely take a village of arms for Atlanta to account for the substantial loss of Game 1 starter Charlie Morton to a fractured right fibula suffered on a comebacker — an injury that stretched the Braves’ bullpen on this night and will test it the rest of the way.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. had manufactured a run for the Yankees in the top half, singling, stealing two bases and coming around to score on a groundout, but the Dodgers came right back. They put runners on first and second with one out, saw both runners advance after Alex Verdugo spilled over the fence making a spectacular catch — and they sent Freddie Freeman up with the bases loaded, watching him deliver the walk-off grand slam. Freeman’s sprained right ankle has been a problem all month, so much so that he wasn’t in the starting lineup for the pennant-clinching game of the National League Championship Series. But he got almost a full week to heal and felt good coming into Game 1, a night when the Dodgers needed him in the lineup because of the matchup against Gerrit Cole. Throughout the playoffs, Freeman’s toughness has inspired teammates. On this night, it directly led to an improbable victory. — Alden Gonzalez
Freeman had been hobbled this postseason. His ailing ankle had left him limping and occasionally unable to play. He came into the game hitting .167 with no extra-base hits in the playoffs. He also had been through personal turmoil this season with his young son hospitalized with a rare medical condition.
Justin Verlander has a reputation as a big-game pitcher in the postseason — mostly based on two dominant performances against the Yankees in the 2017 ALCS. His World Series history, however, is another matter: He entered this game 0-6 with a 5.68 ERA in seven career starts. That’s the third-worst ERA among pitchers who have started at least five World Series games. Early on, however, he’s cruising: Nine up and nine down through three innings with four strikeouts, including a three-pitch strikeout of Bryce Harper when he got Harper to swing and miss at three straight fastballs at the top of the zone. — Schoenfield
Game 3 world series
“When he hit the ball, we knew it was leaving the park, but we had no idea we were going to catch it.” said Zachary, whose parents declined to give his last name. “The ball bounced on the seat in front of us and rolled on the ground a little bit. Then I got it.”
“Hopefully we can go be this amazing story and shock the world,” manager Aaron Boone said. “But right now it’s about trying to get a lead, trying to grab a game, and force another one, and then on from there.”
Yankees: The Yankees are facing a 3-0 series deficit because their offense, led by their presumptive American League MVP, has gone missing. On Monday, New York produced four hits, five walks and boos from the home crowd. Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4; the rest of the team finished 3-for-27. Aaron Judge went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and a walk, running his series tally to 1-for-12 with seven strikeouts. Stanton’s double in the fourth inning Monday was New York’s only extra-base hit. The Yankees went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base. They had rallies end with a questionable send (Stanton getting thrown out at home in the fourth inning) and a questionable strike three call (Gleyber Torres taking a pitch above the strike zone with two runners on base in the seventh inning). This is certain: The Yankees, who have managed to score seven runs in this series, are another quiet night away from getting swept. — Jorge Castillo
The big question for Game 4: Is this really going to be a sweep? While the oddsmakers favored the Dodgers in this series, it was by a slight margin, and evaluators saw it as close to a coin flip. Three games in, the Dodgers have so thoroughly shut down Yankees hitters that crowning Los Angeles feels like an inevitability.
