Freddie Freeman refuses to allow Jorge Soler to dominate the World Series MVP discussion. In what could (but won’t) be his last at-bat for the Braves, Freeman smashes a solo shot off right-hander Ryne Stanek elvis grandson cause of death. — Nesbitt
“For years as a kid watching the Yankees playing the World Series, won the World Series, just that excitement, the emotion how the city comes alive is something definitely special and looking forward to doing that with this group.”
From this day forward, whenever an underachieving (or over-injured) team arrives at the trade deadline out of first place and right around .500, their fans will plead with the front office to do something — to add, to upgrade, to improve — because, hey, look what the 2021 Braves did.
But what happened 20 years ago forever remains a reminder that a 3-0 series can still be salvaged for the trailing team. For the Yankees to pull that off, their lumbering lineup, which is batting .186 as a team in this World Series, is going to have to get it going in a game in which the Dodgers will be going the all-reliever route.
The two teams have faced each other in 11 World Series, more than any other teams. When the Dodgers were Brooklyn-based, the Yankees had a commanding 6-1 edge in World Series matchups. Since the Dodgers moved to Hollywood in the late 50s, the teams are even at two a piece. They last met in 1981.
Game 1 world series
The most-hyped World Series in recent memory more than lived up to the billing in Game 1. The Los Angeles Dodgers have a 1-0 series lead over the New York Yankees thanks to two late-inning comebacks and Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the tenth inning Friday night (LA 6, NY 3). Game 2 is Saturday night.
“This last week has been really good for me,” Freeman said. “The first time I ran was when I ran out to give high fives to my teammates when we got introduced. Tried to stave off running as much as I could this week, treated it as much as I could.”

Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam sent the Dodgers home happy with a win reminiscent of 1988 in more ways than one. The game began at 5:11 p.m. PT and was 3 hours and 27 minutes — over at 8:38. 1988 Game 1 had a 5:35 p.m. start and 3:04 time of game — over at 8:39.

Game 2 world series
The Dodgers and Yankees just played a Game 1 that met the moment. A Series with a staggering number of superstars and featuring two of the most storied franchises in professional sports is off to an incredible start after Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman launched the first walk-off grand slam in the history of the Fall Classic.
An efficient inning by Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Despite a walk to Anthony Rizzo, he got Jazz Chisholm, Austin Wells and Anthony Rizzo out on nine combined pitches to keep the game scoreless.
Framber Valdez was not good in the 2021 World Series. The Astros starting pitcher for Game 2 on Saturday went just 4 2/3 innings over two starts and allowed 10 earned runs. Valdez has been excellent so far this postseason, and believes he’s poised for a Fall Classic improvement. So too does Dusty Baker. When asked about why that might be the case? “He doesn’t get nearly as upset as he used to,” Baker said. “You know, you get a wife and two or three kids, man, that will make you do a lot of stuff. That will make you grow up.”
