Rare is certainly sailing with the wind at its backs, constantly delivering new journeys on the high seas for Sea of Thieves players. Following on from its collaboration with Disney in A Pirate’s Life, additional adventures and tall tales are regularly introduced as the seasons roll past. Playing Sea of Thieves is truly a unique experience, especially so with a crew of loyal sea dogs beside you, keeping an eye on the horizon, scanning for rival crews to hone in on, or to desperately sail away from.
The sharpest a platform fighter has ever been. Super Smash Bros. Melee was beloved by Nintendo fans of the day, but nobody expected the dedicated competitive scene that would form around it, and still thrives today, in the shadows. Wavedashes, dash-dancing, L-cancelling, and more competitive techniques make this one of the fastest and most intense games to ever be played competitively, right up there with StarCraft 2. Oh, it also has Pikachu as a playable character. That helps.
Slay the Princess was one of our favorite games when it first came out in 2023, but this new edition improves on its excellence. With a mix of visual novel gameplay, plot twists, and disturbing art, The Pristine Cut enhances the game on multiple levels.
As it turns out, the Resident Evil series’ signature “tank controls” feel very different from an over-the-shoulder perspective. A simple change in viewpoint completely shifted how Resident Evil played, and Resident Evil 4 took full use of its new perspective. Third-person shooting allowed Leon to aim his weapon precisely, nailing headshots, and bringing foes down with a shot to the knee. Follow this up with a suplex, and you’ll feel like the coolest person to ever hold a controller. The campy dialogue complements the horror shockingly well, and no matter how you play it, Resident Evil 4 might still be the best action horror game ever made.

On July 20, 2021, the game was launched as a closed beta. The following day, it was reported that many high-end Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards manufactured by EVGA were bricked while running the game. It was theorized that the absence of an FPS limit for menu screens in the game caused the GPUs to render more than 9000 frames per second at full load (while most gaming computers run at below 240 frames per second), while fail-safes in the cards failed to prevent damage. In response, Amazon said that it would implement an FPS limit in the menu screens, while maintaining that the game itself had not damaged the cards. Jason Langevin, a tech YouTuber (popularly known as JayzTwoCents) who first reported the issue, reported that other GPUs including the RTX 3080 Ti and various AMD GPUs were affected, and also reported that EVGA would replace all RTX 3090 GPUs bricked by the game at no cost. Langevin also investigated further by running an EVGA RTX 3090 and an MSi RTX 3090 and found that while the MSi GPU did not cross its rated power limit, the EVGA GPU went 20% above the limit.
On August 4, 2021, it was announced that the game would be further delayed to September 28, 2021, to allow for additional development based on beta testing feedback. The final open beta period began on September 9, 2021, and continued until September 12.
