“I’m always an optimist. For me, when that fight with AJ is a fight that can be made in two minutes in a room, I am always hopeful. But Tyson Fury’s earned the right to make his own decisions. If he’s done, he’s done. If not, then we make the biggest fight in the history of the sport. Only time will tell.
IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia (27-0, 21 KOs) retained his title with a devastating fourth round knockout against previously unbeaten David Nyika (10-1, 9 KOs) on Wednesday night at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia. The fight was an exciting slugfest with Opetaia breaking through in the fourth to drop Nyika twice. Time was 2:17. Nyika was on the canvas for a long time but eventually did leave the ring under his own power. Next up for Opetaia will likely be a unification clash with WBA/WBO champion Zurdo Ramirez.

Crawford can still claim the award this year if Tyson Fury defeats Oleksandr Usyk on December 21. Fury lost the first fight against Usyk in May and was almost knocked out. Therefore, if ‘The Gypsy King’ manages to gain revenge, Crawford’s achievement of winning a world title in a fourth weight class will outweigh the heavyweight’s triumph.
Even with that final part of the order, as the WBO placed its mandatory into the two-fight saga, the IBF would undoubtedly be next. The WBC would follow that. However, the WBO will need some indication that the unified champion intends to fight the interim ruler, currently Joseph Parker.

Usyk hurt the 6-foot-9 Fury (34-1-1) with a left hand and eventually sent him sprawling into a corner in the final seconds of the round, getting credit for a knockdown right before Fury was saved by the bell. Fury struggled to mount a consistent attack after nearly getting stopped, and the knockdown turned out to be the decisive factor in the decision.
